CUCURBIT DOWNY MILDEW ipmPIPE

Cucurbit Downy Mildew Forecasts - Monday, May 13, 2013

*** Epidemic Update - 10 May: No new reports or updates. ***

*** Epidemic Update - 1 May: New Report from FL. CDM has been reported in a research plot in Collier County, FL. Please see the Epidemic History for details. ***

Regional Weather: Lower Southeast

Dry with a warming trend this week. The weekend frontal system exits southern FL today accompanied by a few showers. High pressure builds over the region behind it, bringing mostly sunny skies and dry weather.  Briefly cooler temperatures today will rebound quickly. Highs in the 70s and 80s, lows from the 40s to 60s.

OUTLOOK:

Overview: Epidemic spread unlikely. The small chance of showers today near the sources warrants an increase in risk over minimal. Events are tracking to the southeast and south. Unfavorable conditions are expected on Tuesday as transport events move rapidly southwest. No danger to other growing regions from the early-week transport events.

Risk prediction map for Day 1: Monday, May 13

Low Risk for cucurbits in southern FL. Minimal Risk to cucurbits otherwise.

Risk prediction map for Day 2: Tuesday, May 14

Minimal Risk to cucurbits.

Regional Weather: Lower Southeast

Cold front to impact the lower Southeast this weekend. High pressure will slowly give way to a cold front that now stretches from the Ohio Valley to east TX. Clouds and showers associated with the front will first enter western sections of the region later today. The chance of showers will continue through Sunday, shifting south and east with time, as the front moves through the region. Drying will begin in western sections Sunday afternoon. Highs in the 80s, lows in the 60s, with cooling temperatures after the front passes.

OUTLOOK:

Overview: Epidemic spread possible along the FL peninsula. Conditions for survivable transport and deposition will vary from slightly favorable (Friday's and Sunday's transport events) to mixed (Saturday's events). Friday's transport events track farthest north before turning northeast / east ... exiting the peninsula north of Melbourne but still well south of Jacksonville. Risk to any cucurbits along the GA and SC coasts appears minimal at this point. By Sunday, events are essentially tracking due east. Highest risks will be for cucurbits in central and southern FL on Saturday.

Risk prediction map for Day 1: Friday, May 10

Low Risk for cucurbits along the FL peninsula. Minimal Risk to cucurbits otherwise.

Risk prediction map for Day 2: Saturday, May 11

Moderate Risk for cucurbits in central and southern FL. Minimal Risk otherwise.

Risk prediction map for Day 3: Sunday, May 12

Low Risk for cucurbits in southern FL. Minimal Risk to cucurbits elsewhere.

Regional Weather: Lower Southeast

Drier weather this week. Expect sunny to partly cloudy skies and mostly dry weather early this week. An upper-level cut-off Low is moving through the TN Valley / lower mid-Atlantic over the next several days. The wetter weather will remain to the north of our region of interest ... but disturbances swinging around the Low may trigger a shower in the lower Southeast, particularly toward the mainland. Highs in the 70s and 80s, lows from the 40s to 60s.

OUTLOOK:

Overview: Epidemic spread unlikely. After a long period of favorable weather, conditions this week will be generally unfavorable for epidemic spread. Transport events Monday and Tuesday track east to northeast. There is little to no chance of rain over the southern FL peninsula and skies will be mostly sunny each day. Events do not approach other growing regions.

Risk prediction map for Day 1: Monday, May 6

Minimal Risk to cucurbits.

Risk prediction map for Day 2: Tuesday, May 7

Minimal Risk to cucurbits.

Regional Weather: Lower Southeast

Unsettled Friday and Saturday; some improvement by Sunday. Main weather features are a surface trough over  FL / Bahamas and a cold front currently over the lower MS Valley. Active weather will occur Friday and Saturday as the front approaches from the west and the FL / Bahamas feature drifts east. The FL peninsula may see some drier weather on Sunday. Highs in the 70s and 80s; lows in the 50s and 60s with some 40s mainland.

OUTLOOK:

Overview: Epidemic spread possible for southern / central FL. Transport events out of southern FL are moving generally east each day, due to the presence and position of the surface trough nearby. Mixed conditions are expected today. Conditions will become increasingly unfavorable the following days. The more active weather should remain to the north.

Risk prediction map for Day 1: Friday, May 3

Moderate Risk for cucurbits in southern and east-central FL. Minimal Risk to cucurbits otherwise.

Risk prediction map for Day 2: Saturday, May 4

Low Risk for southern FL. Minimal Risk to cucurbits elsewhere.

Risk prediction map for Day 3: Sunday, May 5

Minimal Risk to cucurbits.
